Set at the heart of the rolling East Lothian countryside, Gilmerton House comfortably accommodates up to twenty-four resident guests across ten bedrooms in the main house, with two further bedrooms in the adjoining Gardener’s Cottage. Reserved exclusively for your group, every resident guest enjoys a private and peaceful stay in a welcoming historic house, whether you are planning a quiet retreat or a lively gathering.

Make yourself at home

As you step inside Gilmerton House’s beautiful entrance hall, you are met by a large roaring log fire and led through to a bright drawing room, complete with a grand piano, opening onto the South Garden. The cosy snug next door features a smart TV, board games and a wood-panelled library.

Upstairs, you will find a peaceful west-facing drawing room that looks out over the gardens and woodland – the ideal spot for reading or a pre-dinner cocktail – and The Music Room, an impressive oak-panelled dining room lined with family portraits and antique books.

THE GARDENER’S COTTAGE

Privacy, comfort and character

Set within the south wing of Gilmerton House and overlooking the croquet lawn and woodland beyond, The Gardener’s Cottage is a beautifully restored two-bedroom cottage for up to four resident guests. Accessible via its own private entrance from the South Garden, or through the adjoining walkway behind the snug, it is a self-contained home-from-home while remaining connected to the wider estate, available as part of an exclusive-use stay at Gilmerton House or, subject to availability, booked independently.

Thoughtfully redesigned throughout, the cottage combines traditional character with contemporary comfort, from bespoke joinery and a considered Farrow & Ball palette to warm lighting and layered natural textures.

At its heart is a welcoming sitting room with a dining table for four, while the handcrafted kitchenette is equipped with an oven, fridge and coffee machine. The principal bedroom looks out over the croquet lawn and woodland, the second over the peaceful courtyard, both served by a beautifully designed bathroom with a walk-in shower and Verden amenities.
